Voltage:
The mains voltage in The Bahamas is 115 volts AC, the same as in the USA. Within both studios and control rooms, we also have 240 volts on UK receptacles.

Computers:
Here at Compass Point, we are heavily into the Macintosh world. We aren't snobbish, however, so if you want to bring your PC computers, we won't make much fun of you!

Internet access:
Broadband wireless T1 speed internet is available here at the studio.

Weather:
The Bahamas are generally blessed with beautiful weather all of the year. In summer, it's usually between 80 and 90 degrees fahrenheit in the day, and around 75 at night. In the winter, it's usually between 75 and 80 in the day, and around 70 at night. Rain usually lasts just a short while, enough to keep it beautiful, but not spoil much of the day. In mid-summer, the hurricane season is in full swing, but fortunately, the paths taken by most hurricanes are not in line with our island. For up-to-date weather forecasts, see our weather web pages.

Currency:
The Bahamas has its own currency, the Bahamian Dollar, which floats based upon the US Dollar. For cash purposes, the two countries' dollars are equal. All stores in The Bahamas gladly accept either US or Bahamian cash. For checking or exchange purposes, there is a nominal exchange rate of one percent.

Music stores:
Nassau has a couple of music stores, but their stock is not what you might find in New York, London or L.A. They always have some drum heads, some guitar or bass strings, or some picks, but they may not stock that one special type YOU use. It's best to plan ahead, and bring incidental supplies with you. Of course, these supplies should be listed with your equipment when shipped.

Television:
Here at Compass Point, we have Cable TV, with access to most major networks. Outside the studio, it depends on where you are. Most local hotels have the standard hotel fare, including HBO, etc. The apartments behind and above the studio get Cable TV. Each unit has a VCR, and we keep a library of movies on hand in the studio office. There is also a video rental store nearby.

Carnet:
To import equipment into The Bahamas for use in recording at Compass Point, you must first submit, at least one week prior to arrival, a list of all equipment, with serial numbers, approximate USED value, and date and method of arrival. This list is given by us to Customs, where it is approved. With the cooperation of the Bahamian government, we have had all Customs duties removed for this temporary importation. There is only a small "stamp tax" of approximately 2% of the ESTIMATED USED value of the equipment. We handle all of the paperwork for this, and ensure that your equipment is waiting here for you when you arrive.

Cinemas:
Nassau has several multi-screen cinemas. The latest movies are shown, just as quickly as they are available in the US.
